Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Religious radio programs have become a vital platform for promoting peaceful coexistence in diverse and often divided communities. In Argungu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, where religious and cultural differences exist, radio serves as a bridge for fostering mutual understanding and respect. Religious programs that emphasize tolerance, unity, and shared values have been instrumental in reducing tensions and encouraging dialogue. Studies reveal that religious radio programs can influence attitudes, dispel stereotypes, and promote conflict resolution (Yahaya & Umar, 2023; Suleiman, 2024). However, the effectiveness of these programs depends on their content, reach, and alignment with local realities. This study explores the role of religious radio programs in promoting peaceful coexistence in Argungu LGA, examining their impact and identifying areas for improvement.
